Lasting Achievements 

1995 – The Beginning of a Vision

In 1995, LAUGFS embarked on its journey with the establishment of Gas Auto Lanka, introducing Sri Lanka’s first auto gas vehicle conversion service. This pioneering initiative marked the beginning of a commitment to sustainable energy solutions and set the foundation for what would become a diversified conglomerate. 

2000 – Revolutionising Retail

LAUGFS made a significant impact on the retail sector by launching Sri Lanka’s first 24-hour supermarket. This innovation transformed shopping habits and underscored LAUGFS’s dedication to convenience and customer satisfaction. 

2006 – Expanding Horizons

The group ventured into the restaurant industry with the acquisition of the Jade restaurant chain, marking its entry into the leisure and hospitality sector. This move diversified LAUGFS’s portfolio and demonstrated its adaptability to changing market dynamics. 

2008 – Introducing Local Lubricants

In 2008, LAUGFS introduced Sri Lanka’s first locally produced lubricants, further expanding its product offerings and reinforcing its position in the manufacturing sector. 

2010 – Going Public

LAUGFS Gas PLC, a subsidiary of LAUGFS Holdings, was listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange in 2010. This milestone provided the company with greater access to capital markets and signified its growth and transparency in operations. 

2014 – Venturing into Leisure

The establishment of Anantaya Resorts and Spas in Chilaw and Passikudah marked LAUGFS’s foray into the leisure industry. These luxury resorts offered unique experiences, blending comfort with Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage. 

2015 – International Expansion

LAUGFS expanded its footprint beyond Sri Lanka by acquiring Petredec Elpiji Ltd in Bangladesh. This acquisition marked LAUGFS as the first Sri Lankan energy brand to go multinational, enhancing its regional presence in the energy sector. 

2016 – Embracing Digital and International Growth

The establishment of SLOGAL Energy DMCC in Dubai marked LAUGFS’s expansion into international energy trading, strengthening its global presence in the energy sector. In the same year, the launch of online retail platforms clickNshop.lk and GroceryPal.lk through Lfinity (Pvt) Ltd. demonstrated the company’s commitment to digital transformation and modern retail solutions. 

2017 – Recognitions and Achievements

LAUGFS Power commissioned Sri Lanka’s largest solar power project, contributing to the nation’s renewable energy capacity. The company also received national honors, with Chairman Wegapitiya being conferred the Deshabandu title. Anantaya Resorts garnered international acclaim, winning awards at the World Luxury Hotels Awards. 

2018 – Strategic Restructuring

LAUGFS Gas PLC underwent strategic restructuring to strengthen its position for future growth. The company also commissioned the largest LPG transshipment terminal in South Asia at the Hambantota International Port, enhancing its logistics capabilities. 

2019 – Continued Excellence

Chairman Wegapitiya was honored with the “Hall of Fame” award by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka. LAUGFS Gas PLC continued its streak of excellence by winning Gold at the CA Annual Report Awards for the seventh consecutive year. 

2023 – Celebrating Growth

LAUGFS Supermarkets inaugurated its 38th store, expanding its retail presence. LAUGFS Eco Sri opened its 95th vehicle emission testing center, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and public safety. 

2024 – Recognising Excellence and Expanding Horizons

LAUGFS Rubber was recognized as the Most Outstanding Exporter of the Year 2024, marking a remarkable achievement in international trade excellence. The launch of the Crimson Stand-Alone Bakery further expanded the group’s retail footprint, offering customers a premium bakery experience. 

2025 – Strengthening Presence in Retail and Hospitality

JADE Restaurant extended its presence with a new outlet in Negombo, enhancing its culinary reach. Meanwhile, LAUGFS Supermarkets celebrated the opening of its 40th outlet, reaffirming its leadership in Sri Lanka’s modern retail landscape.
